Greetings from HIghfield Oval, Harpenden, UK!
This may be a bit late getting up and running, but at least it will be brief. There will be more to come soon, I promise! Forgive me if I overuse such terms as "amazing" and "awesome" and various other amazing, awesome adjectives. After we've been here longer I'll also include some "brilliants"!
Thank you all who helped make this adventure possible, and thank you for your continued prayers and support!
The beauty of this area is, well, awesome! So much green! Such beautiful autumn colors and morning fog! So much...cold! The buildings are quite old and they don't turn on the room heat until the middle of the month, so nights and mornings are quite nippy. Afternoons have been very comfortable and we haven't seen any rain, but that is supposed to change tomorrow. Yesterday Sheri found an electric throw for the bed, so she's a happy camper.
The people here are so amazing! All the staff have such an incredible heart for Jesus and are so anxious to share that passion. And our fellow DTSers are so much fun and incredibly diverse. There are three other older couples (grey tops) and the rest are young adults (18 to 31). Sheri and I want to adopt all of them! I think some of them would come home with us. We grey tops call ourselves GWAM (geezers with a mission).
Even though we've only been here a week, it feels like much longer. Not because it has dragged out, but because we have learned and shared so much and it's been so emotional. Staff and students alike have some amazing and touching stories. We listen, we talk, we sing, laugh and cry. We pray and praise.
It's a challenge and a privilege. And it's fun. We are so blessed to be here and look forward to seeing what God has is store for us and sharing it with you.
Again, thank you for all your prayers. We feel them and God hears them. D&S
